About HGH - The cons and pros of HGH Anti-Aging

HGH

What is HGH?

HGH stands for Human Growth Hormone. This hormone is produced in the pituitary gland in the brain and carries out a variety of vital functions for the body, the most well-known one being the stimulation of growth and cell production in the body. Other valuable contributions include increasing muscle mass, bone density and a helping hand in controlling sugar and insulin levels. It also boosts the immune system. A large amount of this hormone is produced in the young, but levels start to diminish once a person hits thirty.

HGH Anti-Aging

The first claims that HGH is effective in stemming the tide of aging emerged in 1990, when a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine which described how HGH was used to treat a group of men over 60. One half of the group were given a placebo whilst the other half had HGH administered to them. Results indicated that those who had received the HGH had undergone an increase in lean body mass and bone mineral compared to those who had gone without thus working as an effective anti-aging measure.

This study sparked huge interest, and consequently a variety of anti-aging HRH research has been carried out since then. Researchers from the Stanford University School of Medicine concluded from their anti-aging HRH study they performed in early 2007 that there is no link between HGH and gaining muscle strength, which has led many to think that it may be that HGH simply allows the body to store more water in the muscles. This theory goes a long way in explaining the reason for the increased lean body mass found in the 1990 New England study. It has yet to be proved that HGH is in fact the anti-aging miracle cure it is sometimes hailed as.

Benefits of HGH

There are many products that have been brought to market claiming to halt the aging process and provide other life- improving benefits by encouraging levels of HGH in the body. The supplements can be administered in a variety of ways from being orally ingested via a spray to receiving a course of injections from the clinic. Some methods hold more credibility than others, for example there is no proof that once sprayed, the hormone is capable of passing through mouth membrane and into the body. There are many staunch supporters of HGH supplements who claim HGH is a wonder-drug for anti-aging. This is yet to be scientifically proved although it is believed by some that combined with a very healthy diet, regular exercise and a positive attitude, these supplements can help to take years off a person and work as an effective anti-aging method.

Side-Effects

There are many reports of negative side effects developing as a result of taking HGH. Joint swelling and pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and an increased risk of diabetes are among the most common. There have even been more alarming reports of people developing what is known as dual-personality disorder through which they carry out acts, sometimes even violent that are totally out of character.

HGH is a controversial ant-aging method to say the least. There are firm believers on either side of the topic. Many doctors and physicians write off HGH as preventative to aging whereas others swear by it. Research is bound to continue and opinions split for years to come on whether HGH is an anti-aging miracle cure.
